Because of our love for Him, we hasten to His throne; accepting His invitation to a forever relationship, fellowship, peace, and salvation, which comes with motivations revealed through His life and teachings. The full Richness of Christ, learning do the same works He did, and this transforms us into becoming more like HIM…is the treasure we get sitting at the Master’s Table.
Motivations for sitting at the Master’s Table 1.) True freedom through following His teachings. Jesus offers a freedom more profound than temporary worldly happiness. It is a truth that liberates people from the burdens of sin, fear, and selfish desires. A person becomes free by continuing in his word and living according to his teachings.
2.) A deep, personal relationship with God. A core motivation for Jesus’s followers is to please the Father through obedience and to experience peace with God. In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus states that the greatest commandment is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”.
3. ) The humility of a servant. At the Last Supper, Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, demonstrating that his followers should serve others selflessly. He motivated his followers to take the lowest place, telling them, “whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 14:11).
4. ) The courage to share the gospel. Jesus gives his followers the power of the Holy Spirit to be his witnesses “to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). The motivation is to share the message of grace with others so that they, too, may join the fellowship at the table of God.
5. The abundance of God’s grace. As seen in the story of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15, Jesus’s grace is so abundant that even the “crumbs” are enough to transform a life. He accepts everyone who approaches him with faith and humility, regardless of their background or past.
THE INVITATION IS STILL AVAILABLE AT THE MASTER’S TABLE
Throughout His ministry, Jesus used mealtimes to challenge social and cultural norms. He ate with tax collectors, sinners, and other marginalized people, demonstrating that the table of the Kingdom of God is open to all who respond to the invitation. The motivation Jesus offers is a place for everyone, especially the humble and repentant, at His table.
