- Love and Forgiveness:
- “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44)
- “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12)
- “Do not repay evil with evil. Do not take revenge; leave that to God. For the Scriptures say, ‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)
- Peacemaking:
- “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
- “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:18)
- Justice and Compassion:
- “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the widow and the oppressed.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)
- “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” (Proverbs 3:27)
- Prayer and Trust in God:
- “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
- “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
- Witnessing and Discipleship:
- “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
- “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
It’s important to note that these principles don’t always translate to easy answers in complex situations. Christians are called to discern how to apply these teachings wisely and compassionately in the face of violence and injustice.
